At the NEMO European Museum Conference 2026 the focus shifts from technology to people: how can museums build trust, strengthen democratic resilience, and take responsibility in a rapidly changing environment? As AI transforms how museums operate and engage with audiences – and as increasing cyber threats place new pressure on institutions - the challenge is not only to adapt, but to act with purpose.
Bringing together museum professionals and tech champions from across Europe and beyond, the conference explores how museums can actively shape this transformation. From mediating contested truths and fostering critical engagement to navigating organisational change and strengthening institutional resilience, the programme connects strategic, ethical, and practical perspectives.
Through discussions, hands-on sessions and collaborative exchange, participants will consider how to rethink roles, build capacity, and turn uncertainty into agency. All to ensure that technological transformation remains grounded in human values, public trust and democratic responsibility.
