“The Experimental Museum” is a symposium dedicated to exploring the museum as a site of experimentation. It begins with the observation that museums, while traditionally places of conservation, are often sites of rich technological, social and artistic experimentation. How and why might a museum serve as a laboratory? What kinds of experiments emerge?
The symposium will bring together researchers and experts from museology, science and technology studies, computer science, experience design, theatre and art, cultural studies and theory to share ideas, project case-studies, theories and results. Over the course of two days, we share thoughts and experiences with research projects and museum practices, artistic positions and theories and framings, with a focus on exchange of ideas across disciplines. Invited speakers include Sarah Kenderdine, Orit Halpern, Christopher Salter, Erik Champion, Nora Al-Badri, Gabriel Menotti, Priscila Arantes, Elisabeth Ramm, Pablo Dornhege, Anders Sundnes Løvlie, Andrew Ahachinsky, Ruairi O'Brien, Peggy Schoenegge, Jinran Ha, Henrietta Y. Mansfeld.
The symposium marks the conclusion of the ANIMA project (https://tu-dresden.de/ing/informatik/smt/im/projects/anima ), a joint project between TU Dresden IXLAB and the SKD Puppentheatersammlung, exploring the use of AI and mixed reality to augment a theatre puppet collection. As part of the symposium, guided tours of the collection will be offered.
Please join us for engaging presentations, inspiring project case studies, and stimulating discussions on topics spanning museology, science and technology studies, computer science, experience design, theater and art, as well as cultural studies and theory. Connect with an international community of experts, gain fresh perspectives on emerging approaches, and discover new inspiration for your own research, professional practice, or creative work.
