Theme of 2026: Awe and Wonder!

An extraordinary experience, something that is otherwise inaccessible to us everyday, or the immediacy of a newly-found perspective on something seemingly ordinary, could shift our entrenched perspectives and paradigms. Such experiences are transformative encounters that can empower us with a better understanding of ourselves, and our interrelatedness within a greater Whole. As we learn through intentionally designed empathy-building experiences, our capacity deepens and increases for expanding our perspectives and our sense of self, through an understanding and appreciation of the diversity of perception and lived experiences that surround us at any given moment. Museums already offer such encounters of awe and wonder. Our question will be: how might we intentionally design such encounters (in and outside museums) where empathy is an intentional outcome that deserves further reflection and contemplation, which then can be translated into positive action?
