Museums and Social Responsibility

As part of the Slovenian presidency of the EU Council, the Slovenian Museum Association is organising an online conference, "Museums and Social Responsibility – What's Next?", which will be held on 23 and 24 September 2021 (sessions in CEST).

It marks the third and final conference in a series of conferences organised in connection with the Trio of Presidencies of the European Union (Germany, Portugal and Slovenia). The conference acknowledges the need for museums to fully understand contemporary societal issues to contribute to social responsibility, with speakers addressing topics such as cultural democracy and equality, climate change and green museums, future skills and needs as well as the use of technology in museums.

The first conference was organised by the Network of European Museum Associations (NEMO) on 17 and 18 September; the second one was held in Portugal on 23 and 24 March 2021 and organised by the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage of the Portuguese Ministry of Culture.
