MuseumNext XR Summit

The MuseumNext XR Summit will take place online between 12-14 July 2021.

For the past decade virtual, augmented and mixed reality have threatened to break through and go mainstream. Smart devices now come with enough computing power to create an XR experience in your home.

But it’s perhaps the COVID pandemic that will finally accelerate adoption of these technologies beyond early adopters and gamers with record sales of VR headsets and AR integrations featured in popular apps. Is now the time for museums to step beyond one off experiments and get serious about XR? This virtual conference will bring together XR storytellers, pioneers’ and those curious about the opportunities that these technologies offer. Topics will include getting started with XR; taking digital experiences outside the museum; budgets; storytelling; and visitor safety.

How can a museum get started with Augmented, Virtual and Mixed Reality, and what are the important considerations? How are museums taking their digital experiences beyond their walls? How can museums use existing platforms to try Augmented, Virtual and Mixed Reality technologies without breaking the bank? Is storytelling through XR technologies different? What are the techniques for telling effective stories through these tools? How can museums keep in-gallery digital COVID safe as we reopen?
